Blackmagic Design unveiled their newest and largest pocket cinema camera capable of shooting 6K as the original, but they introduced a tilt screen, 2 mini XLR inputs, a larger battery, and $2495 USD built-in ND. For the new camera, they have introduced an optional EVF. I think this is a room that Canon wants to get into as soon as possible with this camera and the forthcoming Sony Alpha FX3.

Fremont, CA, USA – Wednesday, February 17, 2021 – The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, a new, more versatile model that includes high-end digital film capabilities, was revealed today by Blackmagic Design. A brighter 1,500 nit customizable HDR touchscreen panel, built-in ND filters, a bigger battery, plus support for an optional electronic viewfinder are included in this new model. The new generation 5 color science, Super 35 HDR image sensor with 13 dynamic range stops, dual native ISO of 25,600, and a common EF lens mount are also included in this edition.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is directly available for US$2,495 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera’s elegant design packs an incredible number of features of high-end digital film into a miniaturized, handheld design. The camera features a multifunction handgrip made of lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite with all recording, ISO, WB and shutter angle controls right at your fingertips. The sensor is designed to reduce thermal noise, enabling cleaner shadows and greater ISO, because it is an advanced digital film camera. Plus, at 4K and 6K resolutions, the large 5 inch LCD makes it possible to get perfect focus.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K features a larger 6144 x 3456 Super 35 sensor and EF lens mount, allowing customers to use larger EF photographic lenses to create cinematic images with shallower field depth, enabling creative defocused backgrounds and gorgeous bokeh effects
Additional pro features include the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, such as built-in 2, 4, and 6 stop ND filters, adjustable HDR LCD tilt with a bright 1500 nits that is ideal for use in bright sunlight. It also includes two XLR mini audio inputs and a larger battery in the NP-F570 style.
The 13 stops of the dynamic range with dual native ISO up to 25,600 have beautiful low noise images in all lighting environments, whether users are aiming in bright sunshine or virtually no light at all. The 6K versions also feature a larger Super 35 sensor that enables shooting with an anamorphic lens and a shallow depth of field. Both versions allow clients to shoot up to 60 fps in maximum or 120 fps window resolution. Combined with Blackmagic color chemistry, an impressive sensor means clients get the same imaging equipment as the most pricey optical video cameras.
The 6K models have an EF lens adapter, meaning customers can use lenses already owned by customers from other cameras such as DSLR, URSA Mini Pro, or even the original Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Customers should use commercially available optical lenses that offer outstanding artistic selection and wonderful lens effects of feature film quality. Customers can change focus and iris from the buttons on the camera or touch screen from the active lens mount.
Featuring high-quality, motorized IR ND filters, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Sensor 6K Pro helps consumers to easily reduce the amount of light entering the camera. Crafted to match the camera’s colorimetry and color theory, the 2, 4, and 6 stop filters offer additional latitude even under intense lighting for consumers. The IR filters have been designed to uniformly filter all-optical and IR wavelengths, removing the images’ IR pollution. Activation buttons are found on the rear of the camera body, from the multi-function handgrip, positioned within easy reach of their thumb. You can also view user-selectable filter settings as either an ND number, a stop reduction, or a fraction on the LCD.
