With the Canon VIXIA GX10 Camcorder, record UHD 4K footage at 60 frames per second in MP4 format into two SD memory card slots simultaneously. This professional-grade camcorder has several advanced capabilities despite its small size, including a dual-pixel autofocus system (DPAF).

Wide Dynamic Range Gamma is supported by the GX10’s 1″ 8.29MP CMOS sensor and two DIGIC DV 6 image processors, providing excellent sensitivity and low noise. Recording in slow and rapid speeds, up to 120 frames per second, provides a variety of unique perspectives that may be used to emphasize sports and other special events.
The five-axis optical image stabilization included in the GX10 helps to provide a smooth and steady shooting experience. A 0.24″ electronic viewfinder and a flip-out touchscreen LCD measuring 3.5 inches are included in the VIXIA GX10, allowing you to compose your shots and examine them as you shoot.
High-definition ultra-high definition (UHD) 4K imaging is available over the whole range of the GX10’s built-in 15x zoom, allowing you to obtain the close-up photos you need and the broad views you require.
Optical imaging features include a switchable focus and zoom ring, a nine-blade iris, and built-in neutral density filters. Your framing options will be greatly expanded by adding the optional 1.5x telephoto and 0.8x wide-angle converters (not included).
Autofocusing that is quicker, more precise, and seems more natural thanks to Dual-Pixel CMOS AF technology’s utilization of phase-difference AF’s millions of focus detecting points is a gift to individual operators. For even more control over the focus, use the touchscreen and the Face Detection AF function.
Additional capabilities of the GX10 include an HDMI 2.0 connector that can output your 4K UHD footage, user buttons that can be customized, and remote control through the WL-D89 controller included in the package.
To achieve a more advanced remote control, connect the RC-V100 remote control, which may be purchased separately, to the 2.5mm remote port on the camera using the connection provided. Wi-Fi networking is included in the GX10, allowing for live streaming, file sharing through FTP, and remote control through apps for iOS and Android.
Canon VIXIA HF GX10 Features
The fact that the Canon VIXIA GX10 is the company’s first 4K UHD consumer camcorder is the device’s most notable feature. Alongside the announcement of the professional-grade XF405 and XF400, Canon also introduced the GX10. The 1.0-inch, 4K UHD CMOS sensor and twin DIGIC DV6 Image Processors included in all three cameras make it possible to record 4K UHD video at a fluid 60 frames per second or slow motion at 120 frames per second while shooting in Full HD mode.
The term “4K” refers to the camera’s resolution, which is the number of individual pixels that make up each image. A picture with a higher pixel count seems sharper and more realistic. The “Full HD” standard resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels worked well for several years. Still, as of late, televisions and other media sources have begun transitioning to the “4K” resolution, which is 3840 by 2160 pixels.
Images captured in 4K resolution have four times as many pixels as those captured in Full HD and must be viewed in person to be fully appreciated. Even though many people are still totally content with regular HD resolution, technology continues to advance rapidly, and 4K will soon become the new standard.
The presence of an optical zoom is still one of the most compelling arguments in favor of utilizing a dedicated camcorder rather than a smartphone. This “digital” zoom drastically reduces the image quality to make your subject appear larger on the screen. While many soccer moms and dads may “zoom in” on their iPhones to catch their little one scoring a goal across the field, it is important to note that this “optical” zoom does not work this way.
The optical expertise of Canon is demonstrated by the company’s small lens, which offers a complete 15x optical zoom with no discernible loss in image quality. They’ve also devised a function called “Advanced Zoom,” which reduces the picture to less than 4K but enables users to zoom in as much as 30 times while retaining full 1920 x 1080 HD quality.
The GX10 lens system is capable of recreating focal lengths ranging from 20.4mm up to 1147.5mm when equipped with the optional WideAttachment (WA-U58) and TeleConverter (TL-U58) attachments.
Canon VIXIA HF GX10 Video Quality
Many people rate the quality of a camera based solely on its resolution, but many other factors contribute to the creation of high-quality images. Canon is particularly proud of its 1.0-inch image sensor, which has a size comparable to that of a good single-lens reflex camera and is far larger than the sensor in a smartphone.
In case you were wondering why the size is important, you should know that each pixel of screen resolution corresponds to an individual pixel on the camera sensor. These photodiodes collect data on the amount of light and color, which they then combine to provide an overall image.
Because the GX10 has a resolution of 4K, this results in an astounding 8,294,400 distinct pixels. Smaller picture sensors cannot take in as much light, which results in good photographs taken in bright environments and outdoors but restricted performance in low light.
Even in difficult lighting conditions, the Canon VIXIA GX10 can produce high-quality photographs because of its big sensor. Canon created wide Dynamic Range (DR) Gamma support with 800% to improve its performance in environments with varying illumination levels. This makes it possible to boost the detail in the shadows and produce far fewer blown-out brilliant spots.
Canon VIXIA HF GX10 Design
The Canon VIXIA GX10 is a pretty tiny camera with an ergonomic design and innovative technology. It also produces high-quality images. The camera has a sophisticated and expert appearance thanks to its all-black design with white writing, which, despite its lack of appeal, gives the camera an air of sophistication.
Although the body of the camera is somewhat bigger than that of other comparable models, it is still a rather portable instrument, measuring 10.5″ x 3.8″ in dimensions. It weighs 3.0 pounds and has a solid and well-built feel to it, while still being light enough to allow for lengthy recording.
You may use the GX10’s built-in electronic viewfinder to monitor the image, but the 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen offers a more expansive view and access to a greater number of functions and pieces of information.
Touch Focus is one of the features that we find ourselves utilizing most of the time and it is made possible by the touchscreen. Even the most advanced auto-focus technology can become confused when dealing with cluttered images that contain objects of varying depths.

The Canon VIXIA GX10 impressed us much in terms of both its style and functionality that it had. The video quality and optical zoom are far ahead of anything else available on a smartphone. Even if you could use a digital single-lens reflex camera, the camcorder format and the focus mode that prioritizes video make the VIXIA a more pleasant and convenient video camera.
Even though Canon classifies the GX10 as a consumer camera, it is definitely not an inexpensive investment for the typical household. The question of whether or not regular people will continue to purchase camcorders has not been answered.
There is no hiding the fact that the vast majority of individuals in the world now own smartphones that are capable of recording video that they consider to be appropriate. In addition to this, consumers who do decide to purchase a separate camera almost always choose a digital SLR instead of a camcorder.
Even though sales in both categories dropped by a stunning amount in 2016, DSLR camera sales totaled 12 million while camcorder sales only reached 600,000 units. According to these statistics, camcorders come in a distant third position, after smartphones and DSLR cameras.
