Fujifilm XP140 Review

The Fujifilm XP140 is a rugged, compact camera suitable for the whole family. It has a 16.4-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens (equivalent to 28-140mm), and can record movies in 4K resolution.

In addition, it is dustproof, shockproof, freezeproof to -10 degrees Celsius, and waterproof up to 25 meters.

A maximum sensitivity of ISO12800 (one stop higher than its predecessor, the XP130), better Scene Recognition Auto mode, Eye Detection, a new CPU, increased durability, and a redesigned user interface are some of the other new features included in this year’s model.

Fujifilm XP140 Build Quality

Do you want to challenge your digital camera or smartphone to a level of photographic peril that would cause them to hide away and shed digital tears? The Fujifilm XP140 is a toughened point-and-shoot compact announced in the spring of 2019. It arrives on the test bench of the Photography Blog hot on the heels of our recently reviewed Ricoh WG-6 model, which offered 20 pixels from its 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, in contrast to this Fuji’s more modest 16.4 megapixels from its backlit chip. The Ricoh model was reviewed here on the Photography Blog.

While the Ricoh was a hard-to-miss bright orange, our Fuji XP140 arrives in an equally arresting luminous green and black (officially ‘Lime’) energy-drink-like combination that would be hard to miss even if it were dropped to the bottom of a pool or if it tumbled out of a pocket onto the snow while skiing. Yellow, graphite, and sky blue are three more color choices for the body.

We’ve brought up both of these recently released cameras that are resistant to water, drops, and freezing temperatures (to which you could also add Olympus’ TG Tough series) because there’s a good chance that if you’re interested in one, you’ll also be thinking about the other.

Fujifilm XP140 Image Quality

The JPEG option with 16 megapixels was used to capture the sample photographs for this evaluation. This setting results in an average image size of around 7 megabytes.

Even though purple fringing can occasionally be seen between areas of high contrast, what stands out here are Fuji’s colors, which can be said to ‘pop’ even when the camera is left on its Standard setting. This means that you, your friends, and your family will appear in good health, while the greens and blues of landscapes will appear particularly lush and verdant.

This is a hassle-free camera that you can take up and start shooting with right away — for those times when you want to be focused on the action rather than simply the camera settings.

Despite the relatively mediocre maximum aperture of f/3.9 available, the camera performed very well in low light and even at night, thanks to a backlit sensor in the package.

We were able to gain a good enough grasp on the Fuji XP140 to prevent the blurring effects of camera shake, even though the camera itself may have a relatively small total weight.

When shooting at the widest possible angle, there is a possibility that we will lose some definition and that there will be some visible softening at the very edges of the frame. However, this is only noticeable if you are specifically looking for such instances.

Once again, this is respectable for a camera in the same class as the Fuji, as it allows you to get close-ups of your subject from as little as 9 centimeters away.
