The best DJI Ronin 4D Review

Before Launch Apple ProRes RAW was deleted from DJIs Ronin 4D and the price was cut 1

Sensor: 1/2.3″ CMOS | Video: 2.7K 30p, 25p, 24p / Full HD 1080 at 60p, 50p, 48p, 30 | Size: Folded: 81x 58 x 138mm – Unfolded: 289 x 56 x 245mm | Weight (body only): 8.5oz / 242g (Including Propellers, Battery, Gimbal, Camera)

A brand-new full-frame Zenmuse X9 gimbal camera rounds out the imaging system. It allows cinematographers to shoot the film in full cinematic quality, and in addition to the widely used H.264 codec, the X9-6K can also record Apple ProRes internally, giving them more options for post-production editing.

The Zenmuse X9-6K can capture film at up to 6K at 60p and 4K at 120p, providing producers with a variety of possibilities for shooting cinema-quality footage. The dual-native ISO of 800/5,000 and over 14 stops of dynamic range assist capture scenes with rich color grading, regardless of the shooting environment, to produce engaging, dramatic photos. The DJI Ronin 4D’s patented DJI Cinema Color System (DCCS) produces natural skin tones and allows seamless tonal consistency across a project when employing different cinema cameras, even in difficult lighting settings.

The camera’s nine-stop physical ND filters make it simple to adjust to significantly shifting lighting conditions, which is especially useful while shooting on location. The X9 also comes with an interchangeable lens mount that can be used with DJI’s proprietary DL mount, Leica M mount, and other short-flange focal distance attachments. This allows cinematographers to create their chosen appearance and style by using ultra-large aperture lenses, anamorphic lenses, and vintage manual lenses.

Despite the lack of Apple ProRes RAW, which many would have been eager to use in their workflows, the DJI Ronin 4D combines two great concepts of a great cinema camera with excellent stabilization to create a unique product that many will be eager to use in the future projects or transition to this all-in-one solution.
